Pet End-of-Life Services in Shawnee, OK
Sadly, our pets don’t live as long as we do. When the time comes to say goodbye, we will be beside you every step of the way, helping make the transition as easy as we can.
What to Expect During the Process
At Northside Veterinary Hospital, you can schedule an appointment ahead of time. Please call ahead when the time is right.
Once you are here, we will have you sign a consent form, go over the process with you, and thoroughly answer any questions you might have. You can then stay for as little or as much of the remaining steps as you like. You can leave your pet with us or stay through the entire journey. The choice is yours.
When you are ready, our veterinarian will begin by giving a small injection into the hip muscle that works as a sedative. This is the same sedative your pet would receive for any anesthetic procedure (like a dental or surgery). The sedation will help your pet fall asleep over the span of about 5 to 10 minutes. If you want to remain present for this procedure, we will leave you and your pet alone during this time for you to spend it together.
Once your pet is under anesthesia, we will come back into the room to administer a second injection into a vessel on the front arm of your pet. This injection is painless, and it is essentially an efficient dose of anesthetics that slows the heart and lungs to a stop peacefully.
After Life Care
Taking your pet home with you for burial is always an option (as long as you live in an area where this is allowed).
If you prefer, we do provide cremation services as well. We have been working with an outside company for several years now, and they take wonderful care of our patients for us. They have two options for remains care: 1) Ashes scattered (where you do not receive the ashes back), or 2) Private Cremation, where the ashes are returned to you in a beautiful hand-carved wooden box or an urn of your choice.
Pricing varies for different weight ranges, so please feel free to call and ask us about your specific needs.
If you have any questions or any requests to allow us to make this process any easier for you, please do not hesitate to ask. This is a delicate and challenging time, and our goal is to provide all the support you and your family need.
